Full Face Orthodontics

Full Face Orthodontics utilizes treatment goals that achieve far more than just straightening the teeth. Traditional orthodontics simply straighten the teeth in jaws that are commonly in the wrong position, generally too far back. Full Face Orthodontics places the jaws in the correct position in the face prior to straightening the teeth.

This approach addresses the importance of properly aligned teeth, healthy jaw joints and airways as well as facial esthetics. As a result patients can be treated for TMJ and sleep apnea issues. Additionally, with the bones of the face in the correct position, a more attractive face is achieved.

Before & After Photos

By utilizing an Anterior Growth Guidance Appliance developed by Dr. Steve Galella over 25 years ago, full Face Orthodontics allows for the following:

Orthopedics: This places the jaws in the correct position, which is more forward in the face. Expanding the upper and lower jaws three dimensionally affords for a more attractive face. This occurs in adults as well as children.
Orthodontics which Straighten Teeth: Once the jaws are in the correct position the teeth are straightened by using protractive (forward) movements into a functional position with relaxed muscles.
Treatment of TMJ: By placing the condyles in the correct position in the TMJ (joint) and relaxing muscles.

Treatment of Sleep Apnea: By moving the facial bones forward and opening the airway.
A removable Growth Guidance Appliance is used for children ages six to nine and a fixed Anterior Growth Guidance Appliance is used after that age to allow for a more beautiful face along with the above benefits. This is orthopedics and orthodontics - move the jaws first and then straighten the teeth.

Invisalign® takes a modern approach to straightening teeth, using a custom-made series of aligners created for you and only you.

These aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable and virtually invisible plastic that you simply wear over your teeth. Wearing the aligners will gradually and gently shift your teeth into place, based on the exact movements Dr. Tompkins plans out for you. There are no metal brackets to attach and no wires to tighten. You simply pop in a new set of aligners approximately every two weeks, until your treatment is complete and you achieve the confident smile that you've always wanted. The best part about the whole process is that most people won't even know you're straightening your teeth.
